Teaching Assistant - Mrs Fitzmaurice
Welcome to the Year 6 class page!
Can you believe your children have reached their final year of primary school! There is much to look forward to, not least the RobinWood residential, in Wrexham, in February.
In Year 6, all children become buddies to our Year 1 children, which is such a privilege. The children look out for the younger ones and help them in the dinner hall, on the playground and with their reading.
Of course, being Year 6 and the oldest in the school, the children have the opportunity to put themselves forward for a variety of different roles of responsibility such as Head Boy and Head Girl and Deputy Head Boy and Girl and Class Prefect and Sports Captain roles.
The children are working towards their SATS, which, in 2025, start on the 12th May and all the homework tasks set will be to consolidate learning in the classroom.
There will be opportunity for your child to attend Fun SATS club after school and during the Easter holidays.
And...what the children look forward to most about being in Year 6, is the end of year production!
Keep checking in to catch up with what the children are doing throughout the year as we will be updating our page regularly.

English
We're so proud of our Published Pieces in #English. We wrote a Diary entry from the perspective of Charles Darwin.
We're so proud of our Published Pieces in #English. Their effort, with their diary entry as a witness to Martin Luther King's inspiring 'I have a dream speech' was outstanding. #BlackHistoryMonth
Reading
We enjoy reading for pleasure in our wonderful school library! #WeLoveReading
Maths
In Maths, we are enjoying our Place Value topic. #Maths
Art
In our Art topic, this half term, we will be looking at sculptures. We have researched and explored our artist, Lubaina Himid, and expressed our thoughts and feelings about her art. We have used the space ad grid method and started to create our own flat yet sculptural artwork. #Art
PE
In PE, we are learning the skills involved in playing tag rugby - we started by practicing to pass and catch accurately and we have been learning to doge and intercept. #PE
Come and See - RE
In our Come and See RE lessons, we have been thinking about God's unconditional love. We have shown an understanding of how religious belief in God's love shapes our lives and we wrote a charter for Christians to live by.
We have also written our own set of Be-Attitudes based on the Beatitudes from Matthew 5: 3-10. In our Be-Attitudes we have chosen attitudes reflecting unconditional love and given reasons why we would make others feel blessed and loved too. #ComeAndSee
WE have been ‘responding’ to our Vocation & Commitment topic - we’ve been recording what we remembered & what learning we’ll hold on to.
BSL Hands Christmas concert
Wow! Our children blew us all away this afternoon with their BSL performance. We are so proud of them: thanks to Ian and Gemma for their work with the children over the past ten weeks. They have certainly been inspired to learn more.

What a lovely start to our Year 6 journey...
We started the year by celebrating what makes each of us unique! We know that communities can consist of a diverse range of people from different countries and backgrounds, and that everyone deserves to feel welcome and safe in our community. We thought about how communities can help each other in difficult times, and how our amazing qualities can aid this. #ProtectedCharacteristics #PSHE
Protected Characteristics
We shared the Little People. Big Dreams Treasury book, focusing on Frida Kahlo, as part of our Protected Characteristics learning. We explored diversity and how best to promote it. 2 Romans 15:7 tealls us, 'Accept one another, just as Christ accepted you.' #ProtectedCharacteristics #PSHE #CatholicLife
We wrote poems demonstrating what diversity means to us. #PSHE #ProtectedCharacteristics
We read ‘The boy who made everyone laugh’ in our Protected Characteristics lesson. Matthew 17:20 says ‘Faith can move mountains’. We explored how we can stand up to disability discrimination & we thought about our aspirations. #PSHE #CelebratingDifferences
PSHE - Aspirations
We can be whatever we want to be! #PSHE #CareersAndAspirations
PAThS
As part of our daily practice, we celebrate all the wonderful things about each other with our PAThS Pupil of the Day!
We give our POTD compliments - this could be something they're good at, something we like about their appearance or something about their character.
Our POTD is encouraged to give their self a compliment and this is taken home for a compliment to be given at home too. #PAThS #PSHE
PSHE - British Sign Language
We welcomed 'Hands' to Year 6 to teach us British Sign Language. We understand that deaf people rely on what they see and feel to communicate as well as BSL. In addition to learning BSL, we are learning a song in BSL to perform to the whole school! #PSHE #Protected Characteristics #BSL
PSHE -First Aid
We have been learning what is meant by first aid and how to respond and react in an emergency situation. We've been learning basic life support, how to contact the emergency services and what to say to them. We have been learning about asthma, bleeding & allergies, choking & head injuries, bites & stings and burns & scalds. #FirstAid #KeepingSafe #PSHE
NSPCC - Speak out! Stay safe!
Year 6 have been learning about Speak out! Stay safe! with the NSPCC. We have learnt about children's rights and we know that a safe, trusted adult will always listen to us if we feel upset or worried. #SpeakOutStaySafe #PSHE #NSPCC
Keeping safe
We had a knife crime talk with Emily Daniels (Community Support Officer) today - full of facts and information to keep us safe. #PSHE #KeepingSafe #CommuinityLinks
Anti-Bullying Week
We enjoyed going to our wonderful school library to share the story, Crayons on strike, about showing respect to our equipment, as part of Anti-Bullying Week. We linked this to our #PSHE learning about respecting each other. #Respect #AntiBullyingWeek #CelebratingDifference
Choose Respect Drama Workshop
We had an amazing time with Altru Drama during our Anti-Bullying workshop, learning to #ChooseRespect through drama.
Meeting our Year 1 Buddies
We can't wait to help our buddies throughout this school year!
Reading with our Year 1 Buddies
We enjoyed sharing stories with our Year 1 buddies, and then listening to them read.
Prayer and Liturgy with our Year 1 Buddies
We shared a reverent Prayer and Liturgy with our Year 1 buddies. We’ve been thinking about how sharing God’s love is the happiest way to live . Our Go Forth was to follow in Jesus’ footsteps & share some happiness.
Spanish
We are confident in reciting the alphabet in Spanish! #MFL #Spanish
We've been interviewing our friends in #Spanish too! Scan the QR code to hear us... #MFL
We have had a Spanish taster session with one of our feeder schools, St Cuthberts, which was fantastic. We really enjoyed showcasing our already embedded learning! #Spanish #MFL #CommunityLinks
Retreat Day
We really enjoyed our Retreat Day to Lowe House. The theme was 'Caring for others'. As the Bible tells us, 'Now that I, Your Lord and teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another's feet' John 13:14.
Prayer and Liturgy
As our Go forth, in Prayer and Liturgy, we thought about what it means to be a pupil in Holy Spirit - we created posters to celebrate all the wonderful reasons to be a Holy Spirit pupil. #PrayerAndLiturgy
Humanities
We welcomed AsCreatives and took part in wonderful workshops learning about Victorian inventions and the lives of working children. We enjoyed dressing up as Victorians for the day too! #Humanities
We really enjoyed researching and recording facts about Mount Everest in #Humanities .
We've used atlases to map the mountain ranges in the UK (specifically Snowdon), which we really enjoyed.
Science
In Science, we enjoyed researching our significant scientist (Charles Darwin) and completing Darwin's Finches activity, where we had to pick up different sized seed with different sized beaks to prove Darwin's theory of 'survival of the fittest'. #Science
We enjoyed investigating changing the number of bulbs & voltage of cells in a circuit. We played a game of circuit symbol bingo, reinforcing our vocabulary & symbol knowledge, before making predictions about circuits. We made the circuits to observe what happened, seeing if our predictions were correct! #Science
